Why doesn't your terrain look this good?

Obviously there is a bit more going on here than just slapping some glue and fake grass on a piece of particleboard. But check out these terrains some guy with too much time on his hand has put together and "specially" photographed:

Superb stuff here. I find the 'simpler' ones, especially the Mars images to be much more convincing. That is not to say the others are bad. For presenting miniatures alone, creative photography doesn't work so well as we pursue WYSIWYG. For terrain on the other hand it works very well, even as far as necessary.
